Port Owen

Described as the most beautiful, weather friendly and desired piece of land on the West Coast, Port Owen is an up-market residential area, 145 km from Cape Town on the West Coast of the Western Cape Province of South Africa.

Port Owen is bordered on two sides by the towns of  Velddrif and Laaiplek (literally “Loading Place”, where the ships of yesterday would stop to load and unload goods for the West Coast). The Marina is developed right on vlei where the Berg River flows into the sea. A network of canals add extra water frontage for homes and give boats access to both the sea and the river, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a variety of water activities including sailing and fishing.

With over 350 different sea, land and river birds, the area is also renowned for its bird life. A bird hide and boardwalk is located just behind the Caltex garage allowing visitors to look out onto intertidal mudflats and salt marshes. The lower Berg River is regarded as a ‘hot spot’ for rare waders like the little blue heron, Hudsonian godwit and lesser yellowlegs.

With its world class Marina, perfect sailing conditions and all the facilities one needs, the area in and around Port Owen is the ideal spot for a relaxing holiday.
